This practice provides the following:
• Definitions of terms regarding specifications
• Standard outline to be used for the uniform creation of specifications
• Format of specifications
• Writing style for specifications
• Creating new master specifications
• Editing existing specifications to create project specifications
APPLICATION
This practice is to be used by personnel that are writing, creating, formatting, or editing
numbered Fluor specifications. The information in this practice is applicable to the
following two types of specifications:
• Master Specifications
• Project Specifications which are created for use on a project
Numbered Documents – Documents which are numbered
according to the standard numbering system described in General Corporate
Practice .
Specification – Technical description of the requirements necessary for the procurement
of equipment, materials, and/or services from suppliers or others. This may include
design, fabrication, or installation / execution. Specifications are usually numbered
documents. There are two types of specifications:
• Master Specification – A standard Fluor specifications developed by a discipline for
a particular subject. It is intended to be the
starting point for the creation of a Project Specification.
• Project Specification – A specification created for a project. It is usually based on a
Master Specification, which is obtained in its native format
and then customized to reflect project-specific requirements
