The objective of the Project Management Guide is to assimilate the various procedures and best practices as a reference document for Project Manager. Whilst the majority of this document can be used as a guide, there are a number of areas which are mandatory across all projects. The mandatory items are:

This procedure covers the steps to be taken at the start of a new project. It is intended as a guide to the Project Manager and his team so that the work begins in an orderly and consistent manner.

This procedure identifies the requirements for review of principal contract data, its verification against Company tender and Client order reference documents, and authorisation prior to issue.

All Hydrocarbons contracts are managed on a project basis. This means that a single individual is charged with the responsibility of carrying out all aspects of the company's work, liaison with the Client and other outside parties, and management of detail execution of activities. This nominated individual is the Project Manager.

Building and maintaining teams from Project Bid through to Award, execution and completion is key to project success. Within a successful team:
- Each team member needs to know the strengths and weaknesses of other team members,
- The team as a group needs to be aware of the critical actions necessary for high performance
|
Once you understand the work of the project you can estimate the resources that will be required to complete the work. Knowing the resources allows you to estimate the costs of the resources to the project. There are three main areas where costs come into play.

Change Management is the process of monitoring and controlling changes within a project management life cycle. By managing the implementation of change, you can:
- Reduce the impact of changes to the project
- Identify new issues and risks as a result of changes raised
- Ensure that changes do not affect the project's ability to achieve its desired objectives
- Control the cost of change within the project

"Planning" is a very general term. When you say you areplanning a project, you are really validating scope, creating a Charter, estimating, creating a schedule, and more. Here are four techniques to use when you plan your projects. They may take a little longer in the planning process, but will save you much more time over the life of the project.
